Although my bankruptcy has gone through, we are still dealing with the aftermath. I hired the atty. to save the house but it may not be possible. So plan on looking for a new place to live. Believe me after you file, you will get bombarded with auto loan and credit card offers from banks that deal with people with poor credit. After all you can't file again for 7 years so they know they will get money from you.
If you ever think of filing for bankruptcy, you will need 6 months of records. Six months of mortgage statements (rent statements); banking records (if you are including anything from a credit union, you will need to find a new bank); all your bills; etc. You will also need to give an estimate of what you own of value. Items inherited (guns, jewelry, etc). Anything that could have value to be sold to pay off your bills.
Do get a prepaid credit card or prepaid debit card. While you are in bankruptcy you will have to show receipts for what you purchase as what bills you have paid. It is a lot easier with them as it comes on their statements and you are not trying to find every receipt for every cent you spent.
Look at reducing your phone cost. I am using tracfones, so they really couldn't complain about a $10 a month phone bill. Anything you can do before you see an atty to file will help you.
You will need to take a credit counseling over the computer and talk to them on the phone afterwards. Expect about a 2 hr call.
